Introduction to Networking – VILT (IN-VILT) course is a 6 hours, virtual instructor-led training designed to help students understand, configure, and manage a UniFi network using the UniFi Dream Router 7 (UDR7) and UniFi wireless access points.
The course introduces foundational networking concepts while guiding students through real-world UniFi configuration and management tasks inside the UniFi Network application.
Students learn how Wi-Fi operates, including the fundamentals of wireless communication, RF behavior in the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands, and how client devices interact with access points. The class also introduces key UniFi wireless settings such as channel width, transmit power, roaming settings, minimum RSSI, band steering, mesh behavior, and airtime utilization.
Through guided labs, students configure wireless networks, create SSIDs, manage users and devices, analyze wireless performance using the UniFi Wi-Fi Calculator at wifi.ui.com, and explore the UniFi dashboard for monitoring clients and network performance. Additional exercises include basic VLAN awareness, guest networking concepts, Identity Endpoint integration, and using the UniFi Design Center for simple wireless planning.
The course emphasizes practical deployment skills, troubleshooting awareness, and understanding how real-world environmental conditions, client limitations, and configuration choices affect wireless performance. By the end of the class, students will have the confidence to deploy and manage a small UniFi network and make informed decisions about Wi-Fi configuration and optimization.
